Friday, May 16
St Kilda 14.10 (94) vs Collingwood 16.7 (103)
Collingwood snatched the game away from a valiant St Kilda in a scrappy, but hard-fought 9 point victory.
Saturday, May 17
Hawthorn 17.15 (117) vs Port Adelaide 15.12 (102)
Despite early trouble, Hawthorn managed to stage a strong final quarter effort to overcome Port Adelaide in difficult conditions in a 15 point victory. Hawthorn remains undefeated in second place on the AFL ladder behind Geelong.
Richmond 10.9 (69) vs Geelong 14.15 (99)
Another round, another victory for the Cats. Not their most impressive win for AFL season 2008, but still a solid performance, and enough to keep Geelong on top of the ladder after round 8.
Carlton 12.20 (92) vs Brisbane 18.17 (125)
It was looking like Brisbane might blow Carlton out of the water in the early stages of Saturday's game, but the Blues managed to hang in their, limiting the damage to 33 points when the final siren sounded. The final score of 12.20 suggests that inaccuracy in front of goal let them down.
Kangaroos 13.11 (89) vs West Coast 12.11 (83)
A valiant effort from the West Coast Eagles, but the Kangaroos emerged victorious on Saturday. Another close victory for the shinboners, with a one goal victory to keep them well inside the top 8.
Sunday, May 18
Adelaide 22.18 (150) vs Melbourne 11.8 (74)
The Adelaide Crows were far too strong for the hapless Melbourne Demons, notching up an impressive 76 point victory.
Sydney 21.17 (143) vs Essendon 7.10 (52)
Despite a strong second quarter, AFL round 8 saw another crushing defeat for Essendon, this time at the hands of the Sydney Swans at Homebush. A big percentage booster for the Swans.
Fremantle 17.9 (111) vs Bulldogs 17.12 (114)
The Western Bulldogs snatched victory from a desperate Fremantle outfit in a thriller, with a 3-point victory. The final score of 17.12 (114) to 17.9 (111) reflected the intensity and desperation shown by both teams throughout the match, and leaves Fremantle languishing in the bottom three while securing the Western Bulldogs' position in third place after Round 8 of the 2008 AFL Premiership Season.
