ANZAC Day Clash Preview: Essendon v Collingwood at the MCG
(Friday 25th April at 2:40 pm)
Yes, it’s that time of the year again. On Friday 25th April, Essendon and Collingwood will take to the field in front of a sell-out crowd for the 14th annual blockbuster ANZAC day clash.
It hasn’t been the greatest start to the season for either of these proud old Victorian sides. Both stand at 2 wins / 3 losses for the season. Essendon comes in on the back of a lackluster performance against St Kilda and a disappointing loss to the Bulldogs, while Collingwood will be desperate to make amends for its insipid capitulation to traditional rival Carlton a couple of rounds ago.
On the whole Collingwood and Essendon come into the game evenly matched, both on the ladder and on the field. Each has shown flashes of brilliance, but been hampered by inconsistency in execution and intensity. Each plays a hard-running, free-flowing style of football. Each has shown the capacity to play exciting football.
If history has anything to say about it, players from both sides with rise to the occasion and we’ll be in for a thriller.
My tip? Essendon by 10 points.
